Admin Report

  • Parking lot and driveways
    • Town as made an adjustment at light at Hoover Park and Weldon to allow for more cars to turn left and clear the street for others to get out of the driveway
    • Town will continue to monitor
    • Looking at options to limit the driveway and stop the three point turns in the driveway itself
    • Looking into some entrances being exit only
    • Also talking about putting pylons out to clear the way for the busses
  • Staffing and timetabling
    • Staff were told on the 13th what departments they are in - but still tentative
    • June 4 the timetables will get handed out to teachers and guidance
    • Guidance will then call down students to deal with timetable conflicts
    • We are growing at SDSS but the Board overall is going down in numbers
    • Sections are tight and we have had to cut some classes we would have liked to have run
    • Usually everyone who does need a course (or wants a course change) will get it - but sometimes it takes some patience
    • In September we need to prioritise new registrations, those who need graduation requirements, then those who want to change courses
  • Senior Assassin - our Grads have been very good about keeping the games out of the school - we are very proud of them
  • Vape Detectors - they have been installed
    • Main floor bathrooms - only 2 sets per school
    • Turned on about 2 weeks ago
    • We get about 25 - 45 emails a day that they have gone off
    • We then check cameras (as soon as we can) then see who was in the bathroom when the vape detector goes off and have conversations with those we see in there at the time
    • We let families know if we see the same child several times
    • We cannot really suspend for being in the bathroom when the detector goes off because we cannot prove who it was
    • But the conversations themselves have been productive
    • We (as the administrators) have also been trying to get to the bathrooms between periods to control how many are in the bathroom at one time (no more than six at a time)
    • But it also means that the downstairs bathrooms are less used for vaping and therefore “safer” for other students

Other Business

  • Proposed School Council dates for next year: Sept 15, Nov 17, Feb 18, May 19
  • Events for next school year will be updated on the community calendar found on the website this week
