Philosophy
The Student Services Department is committed to a team approach:
- working with the classroom teacher, the individual student and parents to ensure student success.
Special Education Resource Teacher:
- provides diagnostic assessments, as appropriate and if required, to determine the student’s learning strengths and needs
- provides support to the student’s classroom teachers by generating ideas and suggestions for accommodations (e.g., individualized teaching or assessment strategies, human support (Learning Centre), individualized equipment)
- provides advice about materials and resources
- works with the classroom teacher(s) to maintain ongoing communication with the student’s parents and other teachers
Educational Assistant:
- assists the classroom teacher in a variety of ways to optimize student learning
Services Offered
- Provide a supportive and quiet setting in the Learning Centre 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- Support homework and assignment completion
- Support test and examination writing
- Coach students in self-advocacy skills
- Monitor student success
- Liaise with classroom teachers to assist communication with students and parent
- Work collaboratively with our Guidance Department
